Sweet treats can really brighten up your day and they’re even better when you share them. Here’s our pick of the best places in Auckland to go for dessert.
Café Cezanne has been a fixture on the Auckland scene for many years; they serve up a fantastic range of desserts, especially cakes. The hot chocolate, served in a large bowl with a chocolate fish also make Cezanne well worth the visit.
Located on the corner of Stokes Road, at the heart of Mt Eden village, Frasers is a neighbourhood institution, but people also come from miles around to sample its delicious array of cakes and baked goods. It is open until late and is a nice spot to adjourn to for dessert or a nightcap after a romantic meal at one of the many great restaurants in the area.
For fancy delights of the best kind, why not save for a few weeks and treat yourself to the dessert menu at Wyndham Street’s The Grove, delicacies include crème brulée and soufflé, as well as an utterly divine four course dessert degustation menu.
Another favourite in Mt Eden, Circus Circus does some fantastic desserts. People wax lyrical about the Banoffee Pie and blackberry crème brulee, but Circus Circus’s menu is choc-a-bloc with good things – a good excuse to keep returning!
Movenpick of Switzerland Mission Bay
Lovers of stylish European ice cream shouldn’t go past this place. Enjoy their delicious flavours in a hand-rolled waffle cone before a trip to the movies, after a restaurant dinner or as you stroll along the beach.
How does a $6 apple crumble sound? Or what about warm chocolate pudding, served with Kapiti cookies and cream ice-cream for $6? We know, it sounds amazing! If you head to The Zoo Keeper’s Son on Saturdays between 5-10pm you can grab a dessert for just $6 with any main meal.
Another one for the ice cream addicts, Giapo in Queen Street produces a great range of delectable gelato, made from 100 per cent natural ingredients, in exciting experimental flavours. In the past the team there has whipped up some unusual taste sensations such as star anise and capsicum and “nachos with cheese” (the nachos and cheese being mango sorbet and avocado jam and brittle of chocolate the minced meat). Grab a Giapo gelato on your way to the cinema next door or pop in at the weekend for a cheeky sweet treat.
