The best for Bluff oysters

The Bluff oyster season has officially opened and, with it, shellfish lovers around the country are licking their lips in anticipation.

Some say that Bluff oysters are the finest in the world and who are we to argue? Grown slowly in the cold, clean waters of the Foveaux Strait, Bluff oysters are a prized delicacy that is unique to New Zealand and loved all over the world.

Vinnies, Herne Bay

Share the passion for Bluff oysters with Vinnies Restaurant owner-chef Geoff Scott, who was on-board one of the first dredging vessels in the Foveaux Strait when the season opened.  The restaurant will be serving up live oysters for as long as the season lasts.

Soul Bar, Viaduct

You may have missed Soul’s famous all-you-can-eat Bluff oysters event – but this classy Auckland restaurant will continue to sell the Kiwi delicacy until season’s end.

Euro, Princes Wharf

Euro on Princes Wharf is calling your Bluff (get it?) with a special lunchtime-only price of $15 per dozen of new season oysters until 31 March 2013. Bookings are essential; limited to one dozen oysters per person.

SPQR, Ponsonby

SPQR will be serving up Bluff oysters until the season’s end – and you know they’re up to the task of shucking them, having recently won the Bluff oyster shucking competition at Soul Bar. That’s something to brag about.

Shed 5, Queens Wharf

One of the windy city’s best seafood restaurants, Shed 5 will be selling new season Bluff oysters at lunchtime for $15 per dozen. How’s that for a mouth-watering deal? Bookings are essential and this deal is limited to one dozen per customer, subject to availability.

The White House, Oriental Parade

The White House’s first delivery of Bluff oysters for 2013 has just landed – get in quick to enjoy them before the all-too-short Bluff oyster season ends.

North Canterbury Seafood Market, Rangiora

Get down to the North Canterbury Seafood Market in Rangiora, Christchurch, where you’ll be able to grab some Bluff oysters and some fresh fish as well. Why not feast on some fresh seafood?

Jervois Steak House, Queenstown

The newly opened Jervois Steak House (JSH) in Queenstown will be serving up Bluff oysters for as long as the supply lasts. Make a booking for lunch and you can order a dozen freshly shucked oysters for just $15.

Best Café, Dunedin

Serving some of the best fish and chips in town, Best Café in Dunedin is always among the first to have new-season Bluff oysters. Try them wrapped in batter.

Barnes Oysters, Invercargill

You can’t enjoy Bluff oysters much closer to where they come from than here, at Barnes Oysters in Invercargill. Hungry customers queue outside at the very start of the season to be among the first to get their hands on new-season oysters.

What is your favourite bar, restaurant, cafe or shop for Bluff oysters?
