Restaurants unveil Taste of Auckland menus

Eleven of New Zealand’s best restaurants have unveiled their menus ahead of next month’s Taste of Auckland festival.

Clooney and Fish are among the big-name restaurants to name three dishes that will be served at the annual festival for foodies, with the latter opting for a menu of gulf snapper, pepper cured trevally fillet and a Sri Lankan-inspired prawn curry.

Clooney will serve salmon with orange peel, saffron and fennel pollen, razor back pig belly and a crème brulet.

Italian is on the menu for Toto and Poderi Crisci, with salmon bellavista and cannelloni of confit duck, wild mushroom, porcini sauce, parmesan and truffle oil among the highlights.

Vivace will celebrate its twentieth birthday during the festival so its menu harks back to the early 1990s but with a modern twist, featuring Moroccan lamb and eggplant ragu among two other favourites.

Celebrity chef Simon Gault’s restaurant Euro is bringing the spice with a special crab and prawn, jalapeno crème fraiche sauce tobiko, and Mexico’s menu consists of three Mexican-infused dishes including fried chicken with citrus powder and jalapeno mayonnaise.

Depot will be doing what it does best, serving oysters with chardonnay vinegar and shallots along with pulled-pork sliders and lemon meringue pie. Kermadec Fine will also be vying for the best dessert with its Nayarit milk chocolate balloon.

Meanwhile, The Commons might have the most interesting dish on its menu at the Taste of Auckland festival with a carrot cake snapper dish consisting of spiced beignets, carrot puree, cream cheese, baby carrots, ginger and lemon oil.

Mt Eden restaurant Molten completes the impressive line-up. Its festival menu includes roasted harissa and rubbed half spatchcock with green olive tabouleh and slow-roasted savannah short rib with white anchovy, eggplant puree, new season peas, lemon and fior di latte.

The Taste of Auckland festival will run from 15-18 November in Victoria Park with tickets to the event available at www.tasteofauckland.co.nz.
