Best For Dates

Ah, the ‘date’… a tradition that’s older than most of the restaurants in Auckland but one that’s still as fun as the first day it was invented.

A poorly chosen bar or restaurant can ruin a date quicker than you can say ‘what do you mean you don’t want to see me again’ – so, it’s lucky for you that we’ve come up with some top spots! Read on and find out where you can feel comfortable on a first date, get a little cosier on a second date and enjoy a sneaky pash on the third!

First date…
It’s your first date with the person that could end up being the love of your life… so don’t ruin it! You’ll want somewhere that’s a little more lively than romantic, just in case the conversation takes a nose-dive. So where better than Federal Street’s Depot eatery? Depot is a fairly new player on the Auckland restaurant scene and was the winner of the coveted Metro/Audi Restaurant fo the Year Award this year. The subject of the restaurant, if nothing else, should help you to keep conversation flowing…

Second date…
So now that you’ve broken the ice and landed a second date, a nice restaurant should be on the cards. We recommend something slightly posh – remember, you’re still out to impress! Mikano in Mechanics Bay is the perfect choice for this. It has great food; superb views and an atmosphere that’ll make you relax from the moment you set foot through the door! Mains average out at approx $30 so it will set you back a bit but the brownie points alone will be worth it!

Third date…
Wahoo, you’ve gotten a third date and you can start to relax now. We think it’s about time that you swapped pricey dinners for Sunday lunches and where better to go for a quiet bite to eat on a lazy Sunday afternoon than Takapuna Beach Café. It’s here that not only will you get arguably the best coffee that side of the bridge, but also be able to choose from a menu that will make your mouth water. Most mains are under $20 so don’t worry about breaking the bank!
