Best for Yum Char

There’s nothing better than sitting among a round table with friends and family, sharing BBQ pork buns, big fat noodles, steamed or fried dumplings, and a pot of jasmine tea. And it seems as though the rest of New Zealand is catching on! The Yum Char dining experience is becoming increasingly popular among diners nationwide, so here are a few of our favourite haunts…

China Yum Char, Auckland

A great spot for the perfect Dim Sum and Chinese tea. Sit back, let the hustle and bustle of the waiters meld into the rhythm of the restaurant’s general activity and enjoy their great selection of steamed and fried dishes.

Jade Dragon, Auckland

If you’re new to Auckland and looking for somewhere easy to find, you can’t get any easier than the Sky Tower. Sky City’s Yum Char restaurant, Jade Dragon, has a great live seafood selection, as well as a simple Yum Char platter that makes for easy peasy dining.

Big Thumb Restaurant, Wellington

This Wellington favourite serves up a simple yet delicious array of Yum Char from 11am-2.30pm. If you’re going with a group you’ll want to book ahead to guarantee a table for a great lunch out at Big Thumb.

Regal Chinese Restaurant, Wellington

This popular Yum Char joint can be found on Wellington’s thriving Courtney Place. Great for groups and couples, you’ll find their fantastic variety of dim sum dishes will keep everyone content and there won’t be an empty stomach at the table!

New Canton Restaurant, Dunedin

The Yum Cha at New Canton Restaurant is very popular. With different varieties of steamed, deep fried, sweet, savoury and spicy Dim Sum to choose from, you’ll be spoilt for choice at this central Dunedin restaurant.
